In your whole life, how many times have you been fascinated with vampires? Those dreadful yet beautiful creatures of the dark, that could literally suck the life out of your veins, never fail to astonish us. I’m sure you have more than once, depicted in your mind the very fashion and elegance of Dracula, the most ancient of those damned creatures; but have you ever visualized the real fashion of Dracula as Bram Stoker, his father, depicted him?

Dracula was a tall old man who had a cleanly-shaved face save for the long white mustache that ran just above his mouth. His face spoke of the strength of his character. It was curved, as the beak of an eagle, with a high bridge for his thin nose, which apparently had arched nostrils. His eyebrows were relatively thick with bushy hair that seemed to curl. He had a proud and domed forehead. Another unlikely characteristic would be his hair, which grows scantily around his temples yet freely elsewhere. His face also suffered the weight of a long white mustache; and below it, is his mouth which was very much cruel-looking especially with his peculiarly protruded sharp teeth. The ears were pointed at their tips. The most prominent of these descriptions was Dracula’s pale and death like skin.

Altogether, these traits can creep out anyone. However, the fashion that Stoker gave Dracula evidently outweighed the physical unattractiveness of the creature. Dracula was clad in black from head to toe; he had a black frock-coat buttoned up to the chin; his trousers were fashionably cut and were black as the night; his boots were perfectly polished leather; an undoubtedly elegant choice of attire.

With this fashion, Stoker gave the awful creature the elegance and beauty of a count. This sort of transformation or rather, illusion, brought about by Dracula’s fashion reflects so much of the wonders fashion can do. Nowadays, vampires are depicted with very fashionable descriptions. These things being said, we can say that with fashion, even the vilest of creatures can be changed into elegant dark princes.

Several years ago, the year 2004 to be more precise, a new classification of guys sprang up- the metrosexual. They were the cultured, well-rounded men who were almost girlishly sensitive and very much in touch with their feminine side. They shave yet still keep regular waxing sessions, they work out in the gym to stay fit, they also undergo facial treatments and have a myriad assortment of hygiene and beauty products – from the perennial body spray and aftershave to body oils, moisturizers and hair conditioners. They take male grooming to a whole new level by getting manicures and pedicures, hair treatments and sometimes even wear a little make-up.

At the emergence of this new ‘specie’, most straight guys have been quick enough to dismiss these so-called metrosexual guys as metrosexual GAYS. They were accused of being homosexuals who were merely in the transitional period of slowly stepping out from inside their closets.

However, taking a closer and more perceptive look at the circumstances that brought forth the advent of the metrosexual, one may reach a different conclusion. So, what exactly gave birth to the new ‘specie’? The concept of metrosexuality has only one parent, but a very monstrous one – consumerism. A dizzying collection of different vanity products disguised first for the purpose of hygiene have been wheedled into the market, the males their target consumers. Through time, intense advertising has successfully convinced the men that getting facials or meta/glutathione treatments are actually needs instead of completely unnecessary pursuits. The males have now been made to eye fashion with the same enthusiasm as the females; making them go for the more expensive brands they would have found to be ridiculously-priced just a generation ago.

This observation brings relief to women who have often complained that most good-looking men were either taken or gay. There could possibly be a good quality, straight guy within the line-up of metrosexuals today; you just have to weed them out with your God-given charms.
